Church Theme of 2009

The Church theme for 2009 is "Friendship with God in Prayer". Each sermon title and related biblical passages are designed in accordance with this year's main theme, our annual Church events, and traditional Chinese festivals. The purpose is that our sisters and brothers in each of our seven congregations will grow spiritually under a common theme, with the same goal at heart, and in an organised manner. We hope this will motivate us to grow together in Christ with the end result that our Church will multiply.

The theme of this year is the first of the four yearly theme under F.I.R.E. In 2009, we will go back to basics. We will start with growing deeper in our "Friendship with God in Prayer" and to deepen our relationship with one another. This will refresh our vision for the future as we seek to be guided by the Word and the Spirit. The way forward is to delve deeper into the Scripture which is inspired by God and makes us wise for salvation through faith in Jesus

Like last year, the church theme is divided into four sub-themes. They are as follows:

First quarter: January - March "Friendship with God".

Second quarter: April - June "Fresh Vision of God.

Third quarter: July - September "God's People at Prayer".

Fourth quarter: October - December "Power of Praying Together".

Strategy: Starting from what we know, we deepen our
relationship with God and with one another. We tackle
problems arising in prayer by learning from some Bible
characters. God's grace is sufficient for us in this journey.

Second Quarter (April - June): " Fresh vision of God"

Strategy: As we grow deeper in friendship with God, we
refresh our vision of God. We stand in awe of the majesty
of God, moved by the love of God and the anger of God.
Let us share God's vision of world and God's mission.
Prayer & fasting over Lent will be the right prelude to Easter.

Third Quarter (July - September): "God's people at prayer"

Strategy: We continue to address practical issues in prayer,
viewing prayer as part of spiritual discipline which includes
prayer struggle, journal of prayer journey, share lessons learnt. Prayer becomes part of our culture of knowing God.

Fourth Quarter (October - December): "Power of praying together"

Strategy: We serve with prayer for it is a spiritual
weapon. We need to be empowered by prayer. Avenues are
diverse. They include prayer party, prayer concert, training in
prayer school, Power of 3 (prayer triplet), intentional prayer
retreat and fasting. When we come to year end, we must be
inspired by the incarnate Word, the Christmas theme which is
linked to the "I" of F.I.R.E. in 2010 - inspired through the Word.
